Key Points
  • Wayne Boone of Santa Fe finished third in the Florida Dairy Farmers Class 3A Player of the Year voting with 16 goals and 7 assists this season.
  • Coach Morgan Dall’Acqua of Santa Fe also finished third in the Class 3A Coach of the Year voting after leading the team to its first final four.
  • Santa Fe boys soccer team repeated as district champions and reached its deepest postseason run despite key player graduations and using a freshman goalie.

Coming off its first final four in program history, the Santa Fe (Alachua) boys soccer team is reaping the rewards with a couple of postseason honors.

This past Friday, senior midfielder Wayne Boone finished third in the voting for the Florida Dairy Farmers Class 3A Player of the Year.

“Wayne is just a phenomenal young man,” said Santa Fe coach Morgan Dall’Acqua. “He’s excellent in the classroom, excellent in training, excellent on the surface, really a leader of our team. There’s a very, very bright future for this young man.”

Boone, who had the game-winning goal against Suwannee (Live Oak) in a 2-1 win in the Class 3A-Region 1 Quarterfinals on Feb. 3, led the Raiders (14-5-3) with 16 goals and seven assists.

He finished behind 3A POY Jadyn Senger of Cocoa Beach and runner-up Jordan Brifil of Avon Park.

“Everything that he does, he brings an intensity, and it doesn’t just elevate his performance but everyone around him,” Dall’Acqua said. “Just a wonderful guy to have in the locker room, and it’s going to be very, very difficult to replace a player like that.”

Dall’Acqua finished third in the voting for Class 3A Coach of the Year.

“The success came together this season because of the stuff that we put in place several years ago,” he said. “We work with these boys and get them in the weight room, doing our training stuff over the summer. They’re grinding when everybody else is resting. They’re putting in the work. They’re putting in the effort when other folks are not and all of that hard work culminated in a really, really solid season.”

Dall’Acqua, the 2025 and 2024 Bosshardt Realty Big School Coach of the Year, finished behind Jonathan Rosas of state champion Downtown Doral and Eric DeSousa of state runner-up Somerset Academy-Canyons (Boynton Beach), who defeated the Raiders in the Class 3A state semifinals.

Both of those programs were nationally ranked.

“Last year, it seemed like we were giving up goals the last three to five minutes of the game, or halves,” Dall’Acqua said. “This season, we were finding the back of the net in those last four to five minutes. It’s not a surprise that Wayne hits a goal to tie with just a couple seconds left and puts the game into overtime (regional semifinals). We were in really, really good shape this season, and the boys were not willing to compromise. They were going to fight for 80 minutes. If you came to Santa Fe High School, you were coming for a battle.”

Santa Fe, which defeated Pensacola Catholic in the region final to advance to its first final four, repeated as district champions and made its deepest postseason run in school history despite losing several players to graduation. Plus, goalkeeper Mayer Steen decided to focus on football and the Raiders played with a freshman goalie this year in Hunter LaLonde.

“We always did a kind of preseason look forward and how things are going to go and a lot of my questions that I think I had coming into the season is what we were going to do in our defensive third, and how we were going to come up with a way of replacing four all area players of the year,” Dall’Acqua said. “Wayne took over the center third of the field, was our leading goal scorer on the back end of the season, really picked the team up, kind of carried the program on his back, led by example, and the boys that surrounded him kind of met that effort that he was fighting with…this was a self-motivating team, and it was really a special thing to be a part of.”

The seven individual class finalists for the 2026 Florida Dairy Farmers Mr. Soccer and Boys’ Soccer Coach-of-the-Year were also announced following balloting by a statewide panel of high school boys’ soccer coaches and prep media representatives.
