The University of Florida has launched searches for deans of the College of Public Health and Health Professions, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and UF Libraries.
The news came via two administrative memos sent Tuesday by Joe Glover, UF’s interim provost and executive vice president for academic affairs.
College of Public Health and Health Professions
In the first memo, Glover announced the establishment of a search advisory committee to head a national search for the next dean of the College of Public Health and Health Professions (PHHP).
Glover said Peter Swaan, dean of the UF College of Pharmacy, will chair the search committee, with assistance from search firm Spencer-Stuart.
Other members on the search committee, Glover said, include Charles Ellis Jr., David Bloom, Stephen Kimmel, Mark Evans, Lorie Marin, Mattia Prosperi, Brendan Rich, Lee Revere and Krista Vandenborne.
Glover said the search committee expects to recommend finalists in the fall.
“I thank Dean Swaan and the other committee members for taking on this important work,” he said in the memo.
The new dean will succeed Beth Virnig, who has served as dean of the College of PHHP since 2022. Glover said Virnig will remain in her role until the new dean arrives.
College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, UF Libraries
In a separate administrative memo, Glover also said search advisory committees have been created to lead national searches for deans of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) and UF Libraries.
According to Glover, Kati Migliaccio, dean of the UF College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, will chair the CLAS dean search committee. Glover said the committee will be supported by the outside firm Parker Executive Search.
Other members of the search committee include Ronald Castellano, William Barbazuk, Amy Galloway, Michael Daniels, Chris Hass, Julia Graber, Uma Sethuram, Kennith Kidd, Jane Southworth, Benjamin Smith, Joseph Spillane and Jane Southworth, Glover said.
Meanwhile, Glenn Good, dean of the UF College of Education, will head the search committee for the dean of UF Libraries, Glover said, with assistance offered by UF Human Resources Talent Acquisition & Onboarding.
According to Glover, the other members of the UF Libraries dean search committee include Aaron Hoover, Elizabeth Evans, Pat Reakes, Valrie Minson, Donovan Welch and Jason von Meding.
“I thank Dean Migliaccio, Dean Good and the search committee members for their time and efforts dedicated to these important searches,” Glover said in the memo.
In addition to the dean searches announced on Tuesday, UF is currently searching for permanent deans to lead the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering and College of Medicine, as well as the College of Veterinary Medicine.
In May, Kevin Robert Orr was named the new dean of UF’s College of Arts. Orr, who will assume the role on July 1, currently serves as director and professor of the School of Music at UF.
