Two pets died due to smoke inhalation at a fire at Woodside Villas Apartments in Gainesville on Sunday evening.
According to an Alachua County Fire Rescue (ACFR) release, units from ACFR and Gainesville Fire Rescue responded at 7:45 p.m. to a residential structure fire at 7200 SW 8th Ave.
Upon arrival, firefighters deployed attack lines and extinguished the blaze, limiting it to the apartment of origin.
Multiple occupants were displaced due to significant smoke travel. Firefighters completed extensive ventilation in several units and conducted salvage and overhaul operations in the affected apartments.
While no one was injured as a result of the fire, two of the family’s pets died due to inhalation before firefighters arrived.
Alachua County Sheriff’s Office deputies assisted in evacuating residents and the American Red Cross was notified to assist the displaced residents.
