The average price per gallon of gas in the Gainesville area and statewide went up one cent over last week.
According to AAA’s weekly gas report released Thursday, cost at the pump went from last week’s $3.45 to $3.46 in the Gainesville market. In Florida, the price increased from $3.39 to $3.40, and nationally the price dipped from $3.48 to $3.45.
“With Tropical Storm Debby drifting up the I-95 corridor to visit the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, the threat to Gulf Coast oil production and refining is over,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson, in the press release. “But tensions in the Middle East and some overseas economic uncertainty may mitigate any drop in oil prices.”
Since an estimated 1.2 million AAA members are in households with one or more electric vehicles, the AAA now lists the kilowatt-per-hour cost for Level 2 (L2) commercial charging by state. As of Thursday, the national average for a kilowatt of electricity at an L2 commercial charging station is at 34 cents.
Thursday’s data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA) showed gas demand fell from 9.25 million barrels per day (b/d) to 8.96 last week. Meanwhile, total domestic gasoline stocks rose from 223.8 to 225.1 million barrels of crude oil (bbl). With gasoline production increasing last week at an average of 10 million barrels per day, crude oil production topped an all-time high of 13.4 million barrels per day.
Thursday’s national average of $3.45 is five cents less than last month’s $3.50. Last year, the price was at $3.82.
Florida is the 24th most expensive state in price per gallon at $3.40. Last month, gas was $3.50 per gallon and last year it was $3.80 statewide.
In the Gainesville area, last month’s price was $3.53 per gallon, and last year it was $3.87.
