The average cost of gas at the pump went down two cents per gallon in the Gainesville area since last week.
According to Thursday’s weekly AAA gas report, the Gainesville area saw another slight decrease from $3.51 to $3.49 since last week. Meanwhile, the average price per gallon in Florida went up from $3.42 to $3.45, and the national average also increased from $3.50 to $3.52.
“Some of the uptick in gasoline prices may be due to a reported storm-related outage at the ExxonMobil refinery in Joliet, Illinois. That’s contributing to higher pump prices in the upper Midwest,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson, in the press release. “Meanwhile, oil prices have fallen quite a bit lately. In April, a barrel of oil was in the upper $80s, but today, it is $10 a barrel cheaper. That might mitigate any upward pressure on pump prices.”
The newest data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA) shows gas demand decreased from 9.39 million barrels per day (b/d) to 8.78 last week. Meanwhile, the total domestic gasoline stocks dropped from 231.7 to 229.7 million barrels of crude oil (bbl). Energy Information Administration (EIA) data
