Gas prices in the Gainesville area and nationwide remain the same as last week.
According to the weekly AAA gas report, the average price per gallon remains at $3.16 in the Gainesville area, while the price dipped one cent on average throughout Florida from $3.11 to $3.10. Nationally, the price stayed at $3.06.
“Looking back at 2024, the high point for the national average was $3.67 on May 19, and the low was $3.01 on December 10,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson, the weekly release. “If the national average follows seasonal norms, it will probably waffle up and down by a few cents for the next two months.”
According to latest data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gas demand increased from 8.16 million barrels per day (b/d) last week to 8.48, while the total domestic gasoline stocks rose from 231.4 million barrels of crude oil (bbl) to 237.7 and gasoline production decreased over the past week, averaging 8.9 million barrels daily.
The EIA reported that the U.S. produced more crude oil than any other nation in the six years from 2018-2023. The 2024 numbers are still being calculated, but the trend will likely continue. Crude oil production in the U.S. averaged 12.9 million barrels daily in 2023, which broke the previous U.S. and global record of 12.3 million in 2019.
Thursday’s national average of $3.06 is five cents more than last month’s $3.01. Last year, the price was at $3.07.
