Key Points
  • The Paper Bag deli will open its fourth Gainesville storefront in January at Magnolia Parke, joining locations downtown, Tower Road, and UF campus.
  • Founder Richard Sterck plans a unique menu item for Magnolia Parke and expects to hire six employees with hours from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Saturday.

The Paper Bag deli will ring in the New Year by opening its fourth Gainesville storefront in January.

The new Magnolia Parke location (4620 NW 39th Ave.) will join The Paper Bag’s spots downtown (11 SE 1st Ave.), on Tower Road (209 NW 75th St., Ste. 30) and on UF’s campus in Newell Hall. (1700 Stadium Rd.).

Founder and owner Richard Sterck told Mainstreet it will serve The Paper Bag’s same unique and classic breakfast and lunch offerings, such as the French Toastwich sandwich and Field of Fruit Dreams salad.

The deli will also have its own special menu item that the other locations don’t have, although Sterck said he’s still workshopping what that will be.

“I try to do a little something different in all spots,” he said. “Downtown’s got the lobster roll, Tower Road’s got all the fresh-baked pastries and deli items my mom makes, and then campus has the smoothie bar. So we’re definitely going to do something a little different.”

Sterck said opening a Paper Bag storefront in Magnolia Parke, where there’s good vibes and high traffic, has been a dream of his since he founded the deli in 2022.

When Starbucks moved out this fall and a leasing sign went up in its place, Sterck said he jumped on the opportunity to make the building work. He said how well the whole process has been going makes him think the expansion was meant to be.

“Everything’s kind of going super smooth,” he said. “The licensing and the inspections and stuff is going really, really fast in a good way.”

Sterck said the new location will look to hire around six employees. To cater to morning traffic, he said it will likely open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday and bring in a Sunday crew within a year of opening.

Earlier this year, Guy Fieri from Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives” visited and featured The Paper Bag Deli on his show.

Local Yelp Elites also ranked the restaurant on its Top 25 Gainesville area restaurants list.
