The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) arrested Murray Sapp (08/03/1955) on Monday at around 12:15 p.m. following a four-hour Newberry manhunt that started with a domestic abuse call.
ACSO spokesperson Art Forgey said the domestic abuse call came around 8 a.m., but Sapp fled from the house—2800 NW 30th Avenue—before deputies arrived. He said deputies were told that Sapp could be armed with a handgun.
Newberry schools went on lockdown as a precaution, but Forgey said the incident happened a good distance from the schools.
Because of the rural area, ACSO sent a helicopter to help find Sapp, along with a SWAT unit to do ground searches. Forgey said a K-9 team apprehended Sapp, who will be taken to a hospital for a precautionary check before heading to jail.
Forgey said Sapp was arrested for armed robbery, domestic battery and depriving a victim of access to 911.
The school lockdown ended, and Forgey said the sheriff’s office had left the area after the arrest.
