A drive-by shooting at the 8th Avenue Food Store in East Gainesville on Sunday night left one person dead and four others wounded.
According to Gainesville Police Department (GPD) spokesperson Graham Glover, at approximately 10 p.m. multiple GPD units responded to several calls of shots fired at the convenience store located at 1634 NE 8th Avenue.
“After arriving to the scene, the investigation revealed that a vehicle traveling southbound on NE 17th Street fired multiple shots into a crowd of individuals outside of the 8th Avenue Food Store,” according to Glover.
Five people were shot and one later died at the hospital as a result of their injuries.
GPD did not have an update on the status of the other four victims as of midnight.
After the shootings, the vehicle turned eastbound on NE 8th Avenue.
This is the second shooting in Gainesville involving five wounded people in less than a month. On June 24th, five teenagers were shot at a party at the American Legion building on NW 6th Street. One victim died three days later from a wound to the head, leading to murder charges against the shooters.
The shootings occurred less than five miles apart.
