The Gainesville Police Department (GPD) is searching for Xavion Perry III, 31, after a shooting Tuesday night killed a 23-year-old at the Creeks Edge Condos.
GPD said it responded to the condos before 10 p.m. after several calls reported gunshots. Officers found the gunshot victim and started lifesaving efforts, but she died in the process.

Perry was identified as a suspect but fled the area after the shooting, the department reported. Perry’s vehicle was spotted in Daytona Beach late on Tuesday, and the Daytona Beach Police Department and Volusia Sheriff’s Office initiated a pursuit.
But a Wednesday press release said Perry abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Law enforcement continues its search for him.
GPD is asking anyone with information on Perry or the shooting to reach out at 352-393-7500. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Alachua County Crime Stoppers Inc or by calling 352-372-STOP (7867).
With the shooting death, Gainesville has seen seven homicides so far this year compared to three at the same point in 2025. GPD Chief Nelson Moya discussed the rise with the City Commission last week and said the department aims to double down on domestic violence, a driving cause of many recent homicides.
