Lake City Police officers arrested a man in possession of numerous tools and various gift, credit and debit cards not belonging to him on Saturday.
According to a Lake City Police Department (LCPD) release, officers responded to I-75 Autos after a person was seen at the rear of the business. The officers found Jermaine Maxwell, 37, unlawfully in the fenced rear of the business.
I-75 Autos management provided video surveillance that showed Maxwell in the building.
“Maxwell had a bag of miscellaneous items in his possession that appeared to be random belongings from multiple other peoples’ vehicles,” said Lake City Police Chief Gerald Butler in the release. “Our Criminal Investigation Division is hard at work now trying to identify other victims based on the items in his possession.”
During Maxwell’s arrest, officers also discovered he had synthetic marijuana in his possession.
Maxwell was charged with armed burglary, possession of burglary tools, tampering with a witness and possession of drugs. He is being held in the Columbia County Jail on an $85,000 bond.
