A homicide victim’s body discovered on April 11 in the woods near NE Gum Swamp Road has been identified.
According to a Columbia County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) release sent Tuesday, the victim has been identified as Shawn Waldron, 32, of Lake City. Next of kin received notification prior to the CCSO release.
“Delivering such terrible news to a family about their loved one is never easy,” said Columbia County Sheriff Mark Hunter in the release. “Our thoughts and prayers remain with the victim’s family as we continue to work to bring closure to this case.”
The body was discovered near NE Gum Swamp Road west of NE Range Road in the Osceola National Forest in Columbia County around 3 p.m. on April 11. CCSO detectives and a forensics team investigated the scene and the body was sent to the medical examiner’s office in Jacksonville for more information.
The investigation remains active and CCSO has no further details to release.
