A Lake City juvenile was arrested for possession of a firearm after fleeing Lake City Police officers on Friday.

According to a Lake City Police Department (LCPD) release, investigators in unmarked vehicles were conducting proactive patrols near Martin Luther King Jr. Street around 1:25 p.m. when they observed a black SUV parked on NE Aggie Avenue near the intersection of NE Trinity Place.

The investigators went to speak to the driver of the SUV when two juveniles attempted to enter the SUV. When the juveniles saw the investigators approaching the vehicle, they fled around a house.

When ordered to stop, one juvenile did not run and, after speaking to the investigators, was released.

The other juvenile ran to the southwest side and was observed by an investigator dropping an unknown object to the ground. A disturbance from the location of the SUV coming from bystanders led the investigator to return to the scene. After the driver of the SUV and two juveniles were released, the investigator returned to the area he observed the juvenile drop the unknown item and discovered a loaded firearm on the ground.

The SUV was still in the area and was stopped by law enforcement. The juvenile seen dropping the loaded firearm was taken into custody.
