Following repeated commands, the second female exited the residence with her hands raised.

Officers interviewed the complainants, who said the suspect arrived at the residence in an agitated state, making threatening statements and brandishing a handgun. The suspect entered the home without permission, confronting the occupants while armed and causing the occupants to fear for their safety.

Officers arrested the suspect, Marnita Y. Demps, 62, and charged her with armed burglary, false imprisonment and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

“The swift response and teamwork by our officers prevented this situation from escalating further,” said Lake City Police Chief Gerald Butler in the release. “We take all threats of violence seriously and will continue to act decisively to ensure the safety of our residents.”

Demps was transported to the Columbia County Detention Facility.
