A man was stabbed in the back of the head in an alleged robbery on Sago Glenn in Lake City early Wednesday morning.

According to a Lake City Police Department (LCPD) release, officers were dispatched to a 911 hang-up call on Sago Glen at 1 a.m.

When they arrived, officers spoke with a man outside the residence who stated no one had called 911, but that they had heard a lot of noise from across the street. Officers noticed the exterior of the residence was in disarray where the man was standing as if a disturbance had recently occurred.

A woman inside the residence also told officers everything was fine and that two children were asleep inside at the time.

At 2:45 a.m., officers responded to the same area to the report of a male being stabbed. When they arrived, they discovered the same man from the earlier call with an injury on the back of his head. Emergency responders transported the victim to a local hospital.

Officers followed the blood trail from where the victim was located to the earlier residence on Sago Glen. According to the release, “Officers attempted to conduct a well-being check on the occupants and discovered a crime scene inside including blood and a broken knife. No other persons were located inside the residence.”

Offices searched the neighborhood and were unable to locate the other occupants of the residence and called for assistance from air units from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission out of concern for the woman and two children.

A request was made for the Florida Department of Corrections K-9 units to conduct a ground search along with a thermal drone search conducted by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.

After six hours of searching, the three missing persons were found asleep in a neighborhood apartment. Officers did not discover any evidence at the location the victim reported the robbery to have occurred.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact LCPD at 386-752-4343.
