14 students and two staff members test positive for COVID-19 at Newberry High School

Active reported cases of COVID-19 are on the rise in Alachua County schools with Newberry High  School reporting the highest number of active cases of 14 students and two staff members.
 
The Alachua County Public School (ACPS) COVID-19 dashboard reported last week that the total students and staff in self-isolation was 74. On Monday, Sept. 28th that number jumped to 161 total students and staff in self-isolation for the period of Sept. 28 to Oct. 2.
 
“The Alachua County Health Department is in daily contact with the SBAC, coordinating testing, quarantines and isolation of persons under investigation, in addition to other communicable disease issues,” Alachua County Department of Health Administrator Paul Myers said. “In terms of enforcing mitigation rules, the SBAC has the authority for this and I have alerted them of this particular concern.”
 
District cumulative totals of COVID-19 cases as of Sept. 29th are 45 students and 25 staff members.
 
For elementary schools, at least one active case is currently being reported at Hidden Oak Elementary, High Springs Elementary, Irby Elementary, Littlewood Elementary, Newberry Elementary, and Wiles Elementary.

For middle schools, at least one active case is currently being reported at Bishop Middle School and Oak View Middle School.
 
For high schools at least one active case is currently being reported at Buchholz High School (4), Eastside High School (1), Gainesville High School (2), Newberry High School (16) and Santa Fe High School (1).

There is one active case reported at the district office and two active cases in the transportation department.
