A team from Buchholz High School won the North Florida Science Bowl for the eighth year in a row.
This year’s team includes James Jiang, Emmanuel Zhang, Laurie Wang, Michael Wei and Luke Xue, coached by BHS teacher Marc Moody.
“They have been preparing for several years, specializing in one or two STEM topics each and trusting their teammates to provide support on other topics,” Moody said in a press release. “Our weekly practices and continuous evaluation of the team’s dynamics have been key to their success.”
Now that they have won the regional competition, the BHS team will compete again in the National Science Bowl® (NSB) competition, held in April in Washington, D.C.
The NSB, organized annually by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science, offers a place for students to demonstrate their knowledge and problem-solving abilities in a range of science and math topics.
“Their dominant run at the regional event makes me believe that they can go far at nationals like their predecessors,” Moody said of the team. “I am crazy proud of their work ethic and their leadership. This recent victory offers just a tiny peek at all they have produced and accomplished in their time on the Buchholz Science Team.”
