The Frazer School math team recently won its second consecutive Mu Alpha Theta national championship, besting longtime rival American Heritage Broward by 194 points (7,034 to 6,840).

According to a press release, Mu Alpha Theta is the biggest national math honor society with more than 100,000 students and over 2,400 chapters across 24 countries. The national championship takes place in a different city every summer.

The release stated that the Frazer team claimed 207 trophies/medals over the course of this year’s competition, which was held June 28 to July 3 in Frisco, Texas. The Frazer team also won the Mu Alpha Theta national championship last year in Orlando in what was the squad’s inaugural year.

“I am very proud of our kids,” Frazer School math coach Will Frazer said in the release. “They worked very hard this summer to get themselves in shape for our national competition. I am also excited about our teams’ prospects for next year and beyond.”

Frazer School principal Olanrewaju Fayiga also touched on the students’ accomplishments.

“These kids are amazing,” he said in the release. “I watched them for the whole month of June run a four-hour camp every morning for young kids, then take a 30-minute lunch break and then attend their own four-hour camp to prepare for our national championship. What is most impressive is that they do this out of love for helping their community and their team. If not for the opportunity to spend time with these impressive young people, I would have retired years ago.”
