P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School in Gainesville recently earned Platinum status on the Advanced Placement (AP) Honor Roll – the highest designation awarded through the College Board’s AP School Recognition Program.
According to a P.K. Yonge press release, this achievement “honors schools that demonstrate an exceptional commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.”
“This recognition affirms the dedication of our faculty, the hard work of our students, and the support of families,” said Dr. Ashley Pennypacker Hill, P.K. Yonge’s secondary principal, in the release. “AP Platinum status highlights our commitment to providing rigorous, meaningful learning experiences that prepare students for success in college, careers, and civic life.”
The release states that P.K. Yonge had 100% of its seniors take at least one AP Exam during high school, with 83% of seniors scoring a 3 or higher on at least one AP Exam, and another 39% of seniors who took five or more AP Exams.
P.K. Yonge offers a strong selection of 28 AP courses across various disciplines, the release said. This includes English, mathematics, science, social studies, world languages and the arts.
“These courses challenge students to develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills while earning potential college credit,” the release said.
In addition to its AP course selections, P.K. Yonge also offers the AP Capstone Diploma Program, a nationally recognized credential focused on research, analysis, collaboration and communication. Students completing the AP Capstone Diploma engage in in-depth, interdisciplinary study through AP Seminar and AP Research, preparing them for the demands of college coursework and beyond.
