A search committee at Santa Fe College has announced two finalists for its provost and vice president of academic affairs position.
Dr. Alice Murillo and Dr. J. Nathaniel Southerland will visit the campus in January for onsite interviews, and Santa Fe expects to pick the new provost in February. The search comes after three finalists from the spring fell through.
The college restarted the search this fall, and the search committee worked through 50 applications.
Murillo has worked since 2015 as associate provost of Bunker Hill Community College’s Chelsea Campus. She also held two interim dean positions at Broward College.
Currently, Murillo oversees STEM and Health Science deans and multiple academic budgets. She earned her bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Catholic University of Puerto Rico before finishing her master’s in mathematics from UF and then attending Florida State University for her doctorate in research design and statistics.
Southerland works as assistant vice president for workforce development at St. Johns River State College in Palatka. Before that, he held the provost position at Coconino Community College in Arizona and worked for nearly 10 years at Salt Lake Community College.
Southerland earned his bachelor’s degree in physics from Brigham Young University, his master’s in social science from Utah State University and a doctorate in educational leadership and policy from the University of Utah.
