Update: All area schools to close Wednesday for winter storm

All North Florida school districts announced they will close on Wednesday due to a winter storm watch forecasting freezing rain to hit North Florida.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), heavy mixed precipitation is possible with a total ice accumulation of up to one-tenth of an inch expected with up to a quarter of an inch possible on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. All school districts will reopen on Thursday.

The University of Florida announced it will cancel classes, close offices, and cancel activities on the main campus and other facilities in Alachua County from midnight tonight until 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Santa Fe College will close its campuses in Alachua and Bradford counties on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Alachua County School District (ACPS), Columbia County School District, Suwannee County School District, Union County School District and Bradford County School District announced that schools would be closed on Wednesday, along with all extra-curricular and sports activities.

ACPS also announced it is canceling all sporting events and extracurricular activities by 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

On Monday, Gilchrist County School District, Dixie County School District and Levy County School District announced they would be closed on Wednesday and all extra-curricular and sporting events would also be canceled.
