State leaders plan to hold a special legislative session this spring to redraw the state’s congressional district map, according to a Wednesday statement from Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Lawmakers will meet in Tallahassee from Monday, April 20, through Friday, April 24, according to a separate release from DeSantis’ office.

Florida’s congressional maps should accurately reflect the state’s population to ensure representation is fair and constitutional, DeSantis said. Rep. Darren Soto, D-Fla., characterized DeSantis as a cheater in a Wednesday statement, alleging his plan would violate the state’s constitution.

What’s with all the redistricting lately? Florida is the latest state to push for redistricting to create a partisan edge ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. State lawmakers in Texas made headlines last fall for pushing through a new congressional map favoring GOP candidates. California responded in kind, passing a temporary pro-Democrat map.

Lawmakers in MissouriNorth Carolina, and Ohio all approved new pro-Republican maps late last year. Republicans in Indiana attempted to redraw its congressional map, which state Democrats rejected last month.

How many other states will redistrict ahead of the election? State lawmakers in Virginia plan to vote next week on a Democrat-endorsed amendment to redraw the state’s districts. Lawmakers in Utah are also locked in a partisan battle to approve new congressional lines, ordered by a district court.

Maryland’s Democratic Gov. Wes Moore also established a commission in November to guide lawmakers in drawing new district lines before the midterms. Louisiana’s congressional map may also change before the election, with the Supreme Court considering the constitutionality of the current map.

So DeSantis is a Fascist just like his idle Trump! WE WILL VOTE THEM ALL OUT!

Bill

This is only done after a census is taken every ten years. The last one was 2020. Unless they use that data, they should wait until 2030 when the next one is taken. The session SHOULD address the $35M he’s stolen from FL taxpayers! The HOPE Florida $10M alone should land him in Alligator Alcatraz!
