Update: Clarence R. Kelly Community Center and Park construction scheduled to begin this summer

The City of Gainesville’s Wild Spaces & Public Places Program and the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department are pleased to provide an update for the community center and park, located at 1701 NE 8th Ave. We’ve applied for construction permits and work is expected to begin later this summer with a completion date in mid-2021. *

Community engagement was relied upon extensively throughout the planning and design phases of this project to better understand the unique needs and wishes of the neighborhood. Well attended community open houses allowed for voting and discussion of the future improvements. A complete copy of the final design drawings for the Clarence R. Kelly Community Center and Park can be viewed here.

*The fall after school program held at the Clarence R. Kelly Community Center will be offered at an alternate location while construction takes place. Program details are currently being worked on. For updates, please check back at http://www.cityofgainesville.org/ParksRecreationCulturalAffairs.

Local contractors sought to help build the new community center and park

One Day Came, Inc.—a small, minority-owned construction company—is partnering with the City of Gainesville as the general contractor on this transformative $1.7 million project.

The contractor is beginning the process of soliciting bids from local sub-contractors and vendors. Those interested in joining the City of Gainesville and One Day Came, Inc. to help reshape the Duval Community should contact the contractor as soon as possible but no later than June 21.

For questions about the project, please contact Pete McNiece, Project Manager, Wild Spaces & Public Places, at 352-393-8544 or mcniecepr@cityofgainesville.org

The Wild Spaces & Public Places sales tax will continue to create, improve and maintain parks and recreational facilities and acquire and improve environmentally-sensitive lands. To sign up for updates, please visit www.WildSpacesPublicPlacesGNV.org.
