The Alachua County Crisis Center is searching for volunteers to become counselors for its Crisis Line.

The next virtual training class starts on Saturday, Sept. 21. Following the initial Saturday session, training will continue from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays for eight weeks. There is no fee for training and applicants are not required to possess specific degrees or certifications. The training will be held online and can be done remotely. Once the training is complete, the Crisis Center asks volunteers for a commitment of 24 four-hour shifts.

Volunteers play an important role and can impact the lives of community members who use the Crisis Line. Volunteers will learn life-enhancing communication skills, crisis intervention, suicide prevention, active listening, community disaster response and more.
