UF Health names new Gainesville regional president

UF Health recently named Michael D. Holmes the new vice president and Gainesville regional president starting March 17.

Holmes, who recently served as executive vice president and chief operating officer of the 1,541-bed Yale-New Haven Hospital. The hospital includes the Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital, the Smilow Cancer Hospital, and the Yale New Haven Psychiatric Hospital, and is one of the largest hospitals in the country.

Motew, UF Health’s president and system CEO, in a press release. “With a proven track record of success and a passion for improving patient outcomes, he will help us further strengthen our network and ensure we continue to meet the evolving needs of our communities with compassion and excellence.”

Holmes’ career includes multiple senior-level management positions, which include president and chief operation officer of St. Luke’s Hospital (part of Ascension Health’s St. Vincent’s Health System in Jacksonville), executive vice president and chief operating officer of Franciscan St. James Health and as an executive leader for 19 years with Trinity Health, among other roles.

Holmes earned his bachelor’s degree in public health administration from Indiana University – Bloomington and a Master of Science in administration from the University of Notre Dame. He also recently served as a board member of the United Way of Greater New Haven, along with being a member of the American College of Health Care Executives and the National Association of Health Care Executives.
