Annual Clot Trot fundraises to blot hemophilia

Join the fun at the 11th Annual Gator Clot Trot: Fun Walk or 5K Run on Saturday, April 9, and help raise funds for the Hemophilia Foundation of Greater Florida.

Walk registration opens at 8 a.m. with the walk starting at 9 a.m. Participants can also register for free in advance for the Fun Walk, while 5K runners can register for $25 or $10 for students. Details can be found here at the event website

The event will be held at Veterans Memorial Park off of Tower Road and will feature UF’s famed Al and Alberta mascots, Miss UF 2022, Hyppo Gourmet Ice Pops and raffle prizes. Livin’ Large Larry, morning host on 106.9 I Am Country, will also DJ live from the park.

Fran Haynes, executive director of the Hemophilia Foundation of Greater Florida, said the walk and run provides a safe activity for those with the disease or other rare bleeding disorders.

“If you have a bleeding disorder, you can’t go out on the football field or you can’t go do contact sports because you could get a bleed,” Haynes said in an interview on 106.9 I Am Country.

The 5K hopes to reach a fundraising goal of $30,000 and, as of Monday, had already hit the 70 percent mark.
