The Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo will close Monday morning for the lions, tigers and bears to prepare for the 26th annual Boo in the Zoo event.

The animals, with the help of students and staff, will create a variety of themed areas for kids and adults to walk through, from Mario Kart to “Finding Nemo,” Willy Wonka and the Wild West. The zoo will even include fantastic creatures with a section based on “How to Train Your Dragon.”

Boo in the Zoo will last from 3-10 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 31 (aka Halloween). Admission costs one canned good or non-perishable food item per person. The food will go to Saints Food Share and Catholic Charities to help local families.

Mainstreet does not have a paywall, but pavement-pounding journalism is not free. Join your neighbors who make this vital work possible.

Trick-or-treaters should bring their own bucket or basket to collect candy, and in addition to the zoo activities, Fun4GatorKids will host a KidsZone outside the zoo. The zone will have community organizations providing crafts, activities and more candies.

Santa Fe Teaching Zoo members will also receive information on early access and fast passes. Gator Domino’s, Mayflower Food Truck and Feliz Flavors Ice Cream will be on scene providing food.

Santa Fe asks that visitors avoid bringing food donations in single-use plastic bags.
