A rising Buchholz High School sophomore is one of just 54 students across the nation who have a shot at having their artwork turned into a Google Doodle, with some help from the public.

The world-recognized Google search engine describes its Doodles as the “fun, surprising and sometimes spontaneous changes that are made to the Google logo to celebrate holidays, anniversaries and the lives of famous artists, pioneers and scientists.” The Doodles appear in 5.6 billion searches every day.

Chloe Green of Buchholz High School

Chloe Greene submitted her design to the national Doodle for Google contest based around the theme ‘What Kindness Means to You.’ Greene was the only student from Florida to make it to this level of the competition. Judges based their selections on criteria including artistic merit, creativity and theme communication.

Greene’s submission displays hands representing a wide array of races and cultures participating in good works, including food drives Women’s Rights and advocacy for children.

“Through collaboration of people of different races and ethnicities, great things can be accomplished throughout the world,’ Greene wrote in her description of her work. “The many skin tones of the hands represent the importance of encouraging all people in the journey to make the world a kinder place.”

Greene now has a shot at being one of five National Finalists, but she’ll now need a popular vote to get there. For the rest of this week until 2:59 a.m. on Saturday, August 22 (Eastern time) the public can vote for Greene’s design (Grades 8-9 category, under ‘Florida’) at https://doodles.google.com/d4g/vote/

Their votes will help determine the five National Finalists, who will receive at $5000 college scholarship and Google hardware. A panel of Google executives will then choose the National Winner, whose design will be displayed on Google.com for one day. The winner will also recieve $30,000 college scholarship, a $50,000 technology package for the student’s school, and other prizes.
