Principal dancers and staff from Gainesville’s Dance Alive National Ballet (DANB) received honors from international dance organizations and earned high finishes from multiple competitions in Brazil this summer.

The International Dance Council (CID), a worldwide non-profit organization representing all forms of dance, invited DANB principal dancer Tales Ribeiro to become a member. As a member, Ribeiro would be able to offer international certification to his students and nominate other people for CID membership.

Ribeiro also taught ballet, jazz and contemporary master classes and created work for different companies and studios around Brazil this summer. The Classical Variations and Pas de Deux dancers he coached all took first place in their competitions.

DANB’s principal dancer Carla Amancio traveled to Belo Horizonte, Brazil, to judge and serve as master teacher in Always Dance Brazil. Amancio’s partner Jose Ramos, DANB principal dancer and choreographer, is also frequently called up alongside Amancio to serve as a guest artist, judge and master teacher.

Amancio will be performing the lead in DANB’s upcoming production of Swan Lake on Oct. 27.

DANB soloist Beatriz Correa performed in front of thousands of dance enthusiasts at the Joinville Dance Festival in Santa Catarina, Brazil, an event known as one of the largest dance festivals in the world. Correa placed third in the Senior Female Repertoire Variation category and performed several group works.
