Upcoming improvements at Duval Nature Park in Gainesville are scheduled to begin on Monday, Feb. 10, and are projected to finish this summer.
According to a release from the city of Gainesville’s Wild Spaces & Public Places Department and the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs, Duval Nature Park (610 NE 24th St.) will have multiple enhancements.
The planned improvements will include:
- A designated asphalt parking area at the entrance on NE 24th Street
- A new walking trail around the existing stormwater pond at the eastern end of the park and a pedestrian entrance connecting the neighborhood to the north
- A new playground
- A new grill and water fountain located near the existing pavilion
- New signage throughout the park
- Stormwater improvements at the northwest corner of the park
The $237,000 contract for the improvements was awarded to AKEA Inc. Funding comes from the Wild Spaces & Public Places half-cent sales tax.
