The first Flying Pig Parade will be in Gainesville to honor its origins.

The parade will start at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 30 and will march on SE 1 Street from University Avenue to the Hippodrome Theater.

The “New Parade Committee” has been meeting regularly to work out details and logistics. It reports that they expect to have thirty-plus groups participating along with bands, floats, and perhaps a live pig.

Mainstreet does not have a paywall, but pavement-pounding journalism is not free. Join your neighbors who make this vital work possible.

The marchers and their fans will then have a post-parade party with entertainment provided by the procession’s bands and participants.

Anyone wanting to enter a group -or wishing to volunteer- can apply on the parade website at http://www.flyingpigparade.org
