The Hippodrome Cinema recently announced its February film lineup, featuring four Academy Award-nominated films, as well as Black History Month and its Cocktails & Classics series with a tribute to the late director Rob Reiner.

The Hippodrome is located at 25 SE 2nd Pl. in Gainesville.

Arco (Feb. 5-15) – This enchanting animated odyssey from filmmaker Ugo Bienvenu won the Cristal Award for Best Feature Film at the 2025 Annecy Awards and has earned Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations for Best Animated Film. Featuring voices of Will Ferrell, Natalie Portman, Mark Ruffalo, and Andy Samberg, the film follows a 10-year-old boy who accidentally travels from a peaceful future to 2075 and discovers a world in peril. Marty Supreme (Feb. 5-15) – Timothy Chalamet delivers a Golden Globe-winning and Academy Award-nominated performance as Marty Mauser, a hustler-turned-champion ping pong player. Directed by Josh Safdie, this sports drama chronicles Mauser’s improbable journey from playing for bets in Manhattan to winning 22 major titles. Also starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Tyler, the Creator. Sinners (Feb. 13) – Director Ryan Coogler’s (“Black Panther,” “Creed”) latest film stars Michael B. Jordan as twin brothers who return to their hometown only to discover an even greater evil awaiting them. This horror-drama made history as the first film nominated for sixteen Academy Awards, and won the Golden Globe for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement. (R)

The Secret Agent (Feb. 19-March 1) – Wagner Moura delivers a Golden Globe-winning performance in master filmmaker Kleber Mendonça Filho’s thrilling epic set during Brazil’s 1977 dictatorship. The film follows Marcelo, a widower and technology researcher who becomes an unwitting target during Carnival week in Recife, forcing him to navigate political turmoil while trying to escape with his young son. BLACK HISTORY MONTH PROGRAMMING

The Hippodrome honors Black History Month with five films spanning documentary, drama, comedy, and sports biography:

I Am Not Your Negro (Feb. 8) – Raoul Peck’s Academy Award-nominated documentary brings James Baldwin’s unfinished manuscript to life, connecting the Civil Rights movement to #BlackLivesMatter through Baldwin’s examination of Medgar Evers, Malcolm X, and Martin Luther King Jr. Featuring the voice of Samuel L. Jackson. (PG-13)

Sinners (Feb. 13) – Ryan Coogler’s record-breaking horror film.

Hollywood Shuffle (February 15) – Robert Townsend’s satirical 1987 comedy, co-written with Keenan Ivory Wayans, lampoons racial stereotypes in Hollywood. Townsend famously financed the film using his acting salary and personal credit cards. (R)

In the Heat of the Night (Feb. 21) – Norman Jewison’s 1967 Best Picture winner starring Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger (who won Best Actor). This gripping mystery-drama follows a Black Philadelphia detective investigating a murder in Mississippi. Features Quincy Jones’ Grammy-nominated score with Ray Charles. (PG-13)

The Jackie Robinson Story (Feb. 22) – Jackie Robinson stars as himself in this 1950 biopic chronicling his historic breaking of baseball’s color barrier and his profound impact on the civil rights movement. (NR)

ADDITIONAL PROGRAMMING

Natchez (Feb. 19-March 1) – Director Suzannah Herbert’s unsettling documentary captures a small Mississippi town grappling with its antebellum past. This layered exploration examines the clash between history and memory in a place where the past is always present. (NR)

Cocktails & Classics: When Harry Met Sally (Feb. 14) – The Hippodrome pays tribute to the late director Rob Reiner with Nora Ephron’s beloved 1989 romantic comedy starring Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan. Reiner, who passed away recently, created an extraordinary body of work, including “This Is Spinal Tap,” “Stand by Me,” “The Princess Bride,” and “A Few Good Men.” Specialty cocktail included in every ticket purchase.
