The Levy Loop Trail and associated parking lot at Barr Hammock Preserve will temporarily close beginning Sunday, June 28, to allow for maintenance and safety improvements.
The closure affects the Levy Loop Trail and the preserve’s northern parking area located at 14920 SE 11th Dr. in Micanopy. The closure is expected to last approximately one week while crews remove vegetation and hazardous trees within the area.
All trails accessible from the preserve’s southern parking lot, located at 300 SE 175th Ave. in Micanopy, will remain open during the maintenance period and available for public recreation.
Visitors are asked to observe all posted closure signs and avoid entering restricted areas while work is underway. Once maintenance activities have been completed, the signs will be removed and the public will be notified that the trail has reopened.
Barr Hammock Preserve is managed through the Alachua County Forever Program, which is funded by the voter-approved Wild Spaces and Public Places surtax. The program acquires, improves and manages environmentally sensitive lands throughout Alachua County to protect water resources, wildlife habitat and natural areas suitable for resource-based recreation.
