Music created entirely in the moment will take center stage Nov. 8 during “Musicians Without a Net: A Concert of Improvised Music,” a free performance featuring 15 musicians at the Historic Thomas Center.
The concert will take place at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 8, in the Spanish Court at the Historic Thomas Center (302 NE Sixth Ave., Gainesville).
The performance will feature instrumental duos and trios, along with a seven-singer ensemble, creating original melodies, harmonies and rhythms without predetermined chord progressions, musical forms or keys.
Unlike traditional jazz or bluegrass improvisation, the musicians will begin without a planned musical structure. Instead, they will rely on careful communication, spontaneous ideas and their responses to one another to shape each performance.
Each piece will develop organically as the performers interact, resulting in original compositions that have never been played before and will never be heard again.
