The city of Gainesville announced the recently completed renovation projects at Tom Petty Park.
The renovations include completed softball fields that feature new turf and irrigation, field drainage improvements, water fountains and water lines, new scoreboards, shade structure over bleachers, upgraded ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) access, new benches and fencing upgrades. Â
The softball fields will remain closed through the spring of 2024 to allow the new turf to grow.
Construction costs totaled $747,000 and the project was funded by the Wild Spaces & Public Places surtax.
Proposed park renovations in 2024 and 2025 will include:
- Lighting of the multipurpose field and upgraded lighting on the softball fields and tennis courts
- Demolition of the racquetball courts
- Construction of 8 dedicated pickleball courts
- Renovation and enlargement of the restroom building
- New seating areas and pavilion
- Addition of spectator bleachers under shade sails
- Improvements to the multi-use trail
- Accessibility improvements throughout the parkÂ
