The North Central Florida Cancer Control Collaborative and WellFlorida Council will host “Shared Journeys,” a free community event for cancer survivors and caregivers, on Saturday, June 19, at the First Baptist Church of Gainesville.

The event, scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at 14105 NW 39th Ave., is designed to bring together cancer survivors, caregivers, healthcare professionals and community organizations for a day focused on education, support and shared experiences. Advance registration is required due to limited space by clicking here.

Organizers say Shared Journeys will provide participants with opportunities to connect with others who have navigated cancer while helping healthcare providers and support organizations better understand the challenges faced throughout the cancer journey.

The event will feature educational breakout sessions tailored specifically for survivors and caregivers, as well as a guided journey-mapping activity that allows participants to reflect on and share their experiences from diagnosis through treatment, survivorship and caregiving.

The information gathered during the event is expected to help community organizations and healthcare providers identify ways to improve services and support systems for individuals affected by cancer.

“Too often, caregivers and survivors are expected to navigate these experiences alone,” said Virginia Grant, founder of Assurance, in the press release. “This event creates space for honest conversation, shared understanding and community connection while also helping organizations learn how to better support people throughout the cancer journey.”
