Special Olympics Florida (SOF) celebrated the induction of eight individuals into its Hall of Fame during a recent ceremony held last month, which included a longtime volunteer from Gainesville.
According to an SOF release, the 2025 Hall of Fame class included Marcia “Marci” McAdams, who was recognized for her more than 25 years of volunteer service. McAdams, who works with the awards operations and Athlete Leadership, has led state and national awards programs, including the 2022 USA Games. She also mentors athletes and volunteers.

The ceremony was held on Jan. 29 at the Omni Orlando at ChampionsGate.
“The Special Olympics Florida Hall of Fame honors those who have shaped our organization through extraordinary commitment and heart,” said Sherry Wheelock, President and CEO of Special Olympics Florida, in the release. “This year’s inductees reflect every facet of our mission — from athletes who lead by example to partners and volunteers whose belief in inclusion and access to opportunities has opened doors and changed lives.”
The SOF provides year-round sports programs, health services and leadership opportunities to people with intellectual disabilities at no cost to the athletes or their caregivers. The organization serves over 85,000 athletes.
