The United Church of Gainesville, Alachua County NAACP Environmental and Climate Justice, and the Wagmore Foundation will be hosting a Climate Change Summit to establish a citizen-based climate action agenda.
The summit will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30 at The United Church of Gainesville (624 NW 5th Ave.).
Community members, students, and concerned citizens should register by clicking here or by calling 352-214-1778. The deadline to register is Monday, Sept. 25th. Event details will be available after registration and lunch will be provided to registrants.
At the summit, participants will receive new information from “Critical Infrastructure and Land Use Climate Vulnerability Analysis” that was commissioned by Alachua County. The keynote speaker will be Jacqueline Patterson, the founder and executive director of The Chisholm Legacy Project. Registrants will participate in breakout sessions on health, water, food and energy.
Participants will be asked to draw on local knowledge to invent a more livable community. They will engage in dialogues led by mayors and other local leaders who have a solid understanding of the obstacles faced.
