A two-vehicle collision killed a 21-year-old Mayo man and seriously injured six others in a crash that involved an SUV and a van on State Road 247 north of Branford on Tuesday evening.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, the collision occurred at 6:14 p.m. at the intersection of SR 247 and County Road 49 northeast of Branford.
A van carrying eight people—all from Mayo—was involved in a collision with a 67-year-old Branford woman driving an SUV.
According to the FHP release, no one in the van wore a seatbelt. The 21-year-old Mayo man who was killed was one of the six passengers.
Those seriously injured included the 45-year-old man driving the van, a 45-year-old male passenger, a 38-year-old male passenger, a 20-year-old male passenger and two passengers whose genders were not identified, ages 28 and 20.
The SUV driver sustained minor injuries and was wearing a seatbelt.
FHP did not release the cause of the collision and an investigation is underway.
