Firefighters contained a 20-acre fire in Northeast Alachua County on Monday afternoon that threatened multiple structures.
According to an Alachua County Fire Rescue (ACFR) release, units from ACFR, La Crosse Fire Department, Windsor Fire Department and the Florida Department of Forestry responded around 3:14 p.m. to an initial 2-acre brush fire off North County Road 225.
Due to high winds and low humidity, the fire spread to nearly 20 acres and threatened six to eight structures. The Department of Forestry contained the fire with three bulldozers by plowing a perimeter line around the blaze. No structures were lost and no one was injured in the incident.
ACFR reminds citizens that the county is under a burn ban. North Central Florida is currently in a drought situation, with the Floridan aquifer levels at their lowest level since 2011.
