A woman suffered life-threatening injuries after she collided with a tractor trailer while traveling the wrong direction on U.S. Highway 301.
According to Floriday Highway Patrol (FHP), the incident occurred just before 10 a.m. Friday in the southeast corner of Alachua County. A 31-year-old Umatilla woman was driving a white SUV northbound in the southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 301 when she encountered the tractor trailer near the intersection with County Road 325.
“Both vehicles swerved in an attempt to avoid collision, causing a T-bone impact,” the FHP report said.
First responders airlifted the woman to UF Health Shands Hospital with life-threatening injuries. She is listed in critical condition.
The driver of the tractor trailer, a 33-year-old man from Jacksonville, suffered only minor injuries.
The FHP report did not specify whether the two drivers were wearing seatbelts.
