Alachua teen dies in single-vehicle crash on NW 165th Street

A 19-year-old Alachua man died on early Sunday morning when his vehicle failed to negotiate a curve along NW 165th Street west of Worthington Springs, left the roadway and collided with a tree.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, the man was driving an SUV north on NW 165th Street at a high rate of speed near NW 270th Avenue at midnight when he failed to negotiate a curve, ran off the roadway onto the east shoulder and the vehicle collided with a tree.

Emergency responders pronounced the man dead on scene. He was reportedly not wearing a seat belt.

FHP was assisted by the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office and Alachua County Fire Rescue at the scene.
