Armed robbery suspect shot and killed in Suwannee County manhunt

Law enforcement officers shot and killed an armed robbery suspect on Friday morning after the suspect shot and injured a Suwannee County Sheriff’s deputy.

According to a Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) social media release, the suspect was shot and killed after firing on law enforcement officers. No officers were injured in the gunfire exchange.

The incident started in Gadsden County, where the suspect allegedly shot four people, killing two, in a robbery at the Mobil Gas Station located at 3749 Pat Thomas Pkwy in Quincy on Thursday, according to WTXL.

The Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office (GDSO) reported that the suspect’s vehicle was spotted in Columbia County and was pursued by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) and SCSO. The suspect then crashed his vehicle in the area of US Highway 90 West near Goldkist Boulevard and the Wayne Frier Home Center sales lot in Live Oak and exchanged gunfire with law enforcement, where he shot the SCSO deputy and fled.   

During the search for the suspect, SCSO ordered a shelter in place for residents in the area of US 90 West, east of 129th Road and North of US 90.

The SCSO deputy who was shot is reportedly in stable condition at an area hospital.

Law enforcement involved in the manhunt included the FHP, GCSO, SCSO, CCSO, Jacksonville Sherrif’s Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
