Two men died when their pickup collided with a log truck that pulled out onto US Highway 301 north of Lawtey in Bradford County on Thursday morning.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, a 47-year-old Middleburg man driving a log truck was exiting a private roadway at 6:45 a.m. near NW 265th Street to make a left turn onto northbound US 301 when a pickup driving south on US 301 collided with the log truck’s trailer.

The pickup became lodged under the trailer and came to a stop in the US 301 southbound lanes.

Emergency responders pronounced the pickup’s driver and passenger dead on scene. The FHP release did not have information on the men’s ages or city location.

The collision also caused a secondary crash between a sedan and a dump truck that were also traveling south on US 301. Both vehicles veered off the road in an attempt to avoid the primary collision and made contact with each other on the roadway shoulder.
