Firefighters extinguished a brush fire north of Newberry that threatened three homes on Wednesday afternoon.
According to an Alachua County Fire Rescue (ACFR) release, multiple units from ACFR and Newberry Fire Rescue responded at 3 p.m. to a brush fire at the 17000 block of NW 94th Avenue.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a moderately-moving grass fire heading north and east across multiple properties and threatening three nearby houses. Crews used brush trucks and hand tools to contain the fire and stop it from progressing to the residences.
ACFR reminds everyone to follow state guidelines whenever burning yard debris, which includes never burning on windy days and refraining from burning yard waste during dry weather.
