Chiefland man dies when drives into Suwannee River

A 31-year-old Chiefland man died Friday evening when his vehicle drove off US Highway 19, through a wood line and into the Suwannee River.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, the man was driving northbound on US 19 at 7 p.m. north of SE 965th Street when his sedan left the roadway to the right, traveled northeast across the east shoulder, through a wood line and entered the Suwannee River.

Both the vehicle and driver became submerged in the river.
