Firefighters extinguish commercial building blaze on SW 2nd Avenue

Firefighters responded to an exterior fire at a commercial building in the 200 block of SW 2nd Avenue in Gainesville on Monday morning.

According to a Gainesville Fire Rescue (GFR) release, crews responded to the fire around 5:30 a.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a blaze coming from the exterior of the building. Crews brought the fire under control and kept it from spreading into the structure.

An investigation revealed that the fire appeared to have originated from the exterior porch area. No injuries were reported.

GFR added a reminder that the city of Gainesville and Alachua County are currently under a burn ban. The extreme cold and dry conditions can increase the risk of fire and GFR suggests avoiding open burning.
