The body of a deceased veteran was discovered Saturday morning at the Malcom Randall Veterans Administration Medical Center in Gainesville.
A statement from Malcom Randall VA Medical Center Executive Health System Director Wende Dottor confirmed the news in a statement to Mainstreet.
“On the morning of July 6, we found a deceased Veteran on our campus and immediately contacted local authorities,” she said. “We are very saddened at the loss of this Veteran and send our sincere condolences to the Veteran’s family, friends and impacted staff. We are unable to comment further on this matter as it remains under investigation.
Gainesville Police Department spokesperson Brandon Hatzel confirmed that the department responded to assist the VA with the incident over the weekend.
“For Veterans, family or caregivers experiencing any crisis, please contact the Veterans Crisis Line at 988 then press 1 or text 838255,” Dotter said in the statement. “You’re not alone — the Veterans Crisis Line is here for you. You don’t have to be enrolled in VA benefits or health care to call or text.”
More money needs to spent on veterans. No more money should be spent on the criminal vagrants being attracted to Gainesville.
Your ignorance is showing. Many of those “vagrants” are veterans. You people hate the homeless because they don’t need you, and you need EVERYTHING and EVERYONE to accommodate you. I think “vagrants” are more people than MAGA is.
I have no doubt that this veteran reached out for help. He most likely got caught in all the red tape and Bureaucracy that they put all our veterans through. Any politician that doesn’t agree with providing our countries VA’s with more funding shouldn’t be in office.
I totally agree, they deserve it all,for all the sacrifice he went thru for us. God bless the 🇺🇸
How come a week later there are still no other news accounts regarding this incident? Why is there no follow up on this story?
The Veterans Administration did not release a name or any information outside of what they gave us when we inquired about this incident. That is why there has not been any other follow up story.
have you taken the time to find out what actually happened?
To answer your question no one has cared enough to followup on the story. The local officials dont seem to care about what this hospital is doing to veterans even though this hospital constantly comes up in the news. Someone has to make it their concern to look deeper into it. Citizens of Gainesville should be making requests on whats going on. Kat Cammacks office seems more concerned with staying friends with the leadership of this facility instead of holding them accountable. This hospital is one of the main reasons the VA changed its rating system. This hospital was doing so bad in the ratings that the VA just decided to do away with the rating system and adopt the SAIL system which doesn’t show any metrics that can show if a hospital is failing veterans.
