Update: FHP locates car involved in fatal hit-and-run

UPDATE (6:15 p.m.): Florida Highway Patrol investigators located the 2020 Kia involved in Wednesday morning’s fatal hit-and-run collision on State Road 26 west of Trenton. The person of interest has been identified.

Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) troopers are searching for a silver Kia Rio sedan that hit and killed a woman walking along State Road 26 west of Trenton.

According to an FHP release, the Kia was traveling west on SR 26 east of SW 19th Circle before 6 a.m. on Wednesday when it struck a woman walking east along the north paved shoulder.

The vehicle – described as a 2018 to 2021 silver Kia Rio sedan – fled the scene.

Emergency responders transported the woman to UF Shands where she died.

FHP seeks information about the vehicle, which should be missing the trim and headlight assembly on the right side. Anyone with information should call the FHP Communications Center at 800-387-1290 or *FHP or call the local Crime Stoppers at 352-463-7867.
