Units from Alachua County Fire Rescue (ACFR) extricated a trapped driver following a rollover crash near Mile Marker 390 on southbound Interstate 75 in Gainesville on Sunday evening.
According to an ACFR release, firefighters found two vehicles with moderate to heavy damage off the roadway near the NW 39th Avenue exit at 6:50 p.m. One vehicle was overturned, while the second vehicle was resting on its side. Crews determined that one vehicle had been towing the other at the time of the crash.
During an initial assessment of the scene, firefighters located a critically injured person trapped inside the vehicle resting on its side.
Rescue personnel stabilized the vehicle and began extrication efforts. Using hydraulic rescue tools, crews performed a roof-flap extrication to access and remove the patient.
The patient was extricated and transported to a local hospital less than 10 minutes from the time emergency crews arrived on scene.
